Thanksgiving is just 3 weeks away. That realization may have some of you smiling and others of you sighing. Either way, take a deep breath, and before you get caught up in the hustle and bustle of all that is to come, consider what you can do this season to make a difference for another!

No one has to look far to see someone dealing with a circumstance more difficult than their own, and while I believe wholeheartedly in not allowing circumstances to dictate our lives, I also believe we have a responsibility to help those who need it! Offer a warm, non-judgmental smile, listen to someone who needs to be heard, offer a hug, or give away what you “know” to another. There are countless ways to make a difference, and very few of them will cost you anything, but a bit of your time!

Change is literally in the airy. Here in Montana, snow has flown more than a few times already, and as if the coming winter doesn’t cause people to hunker down enough, the events taking place on the world stage just add to the pile. Fear, “I don’t wanna”, and every other reason we might use to allow ourselves to be stopped, are rearing their ugly heads. So, what do you CHOOSE to do about it? Yes, you personally don’t have a say in the changing season or world events, but you DO have a say in how you react to them. Be the light your friends, family, co-workers, acquaintances, and even the stranger at the grocery store needs to see. Together we can shine brightly enough to make the difference our world needs.

Fall is in the air and that means the year end is just around the corner. What did you promise yourself, or others, that you would do this year? Have you done it? If not, don’t beat yourself up, but do take a look at why. 9 times out of 10, the reason will be that your list lacks by-when dates. Without dates, a list of goals and objectives becomes nothing more than something you’ll get to when you have time, which usually means never. So, take a look! Recommit to doing what you said you were going to do, add by-when dates, and ask for help and accountability!

Every single person, at one time or another, has wondered why their lives are where they are; What’s the purpose of the circumstances you are faced with? Why doesn’t life always go along the way you think it should? The answer: Because you are where you are because that’s where you’re supposed to be! Now, that is NOT to say that you don’t have a say how your life turns out. But, your journey in getting to where you say you want to go will contain unexpected detours and those detours are filled with opportunities from which you can learn, grow, teach, and even enjoy. Life is a journey that is meant to be savored. Embrace it… embrace all of it!

Yesterday I couldn’t help but notice parents and their children wading through the school supply aisles of the store. Supply lists in hand and carts weighed down, the stress was palpable. So many people take the back-to-school stress on like a badge of honor, but what are you missing when you choose to be stressed? The joy of a kindergartner picking out their first lunchbox. The pride a 5th grader feels when they accomplish labeling their own supplies. The hug your teenager needs to help calm their freshman nerves. It may sound cliche, but… your children are only children once. Choose to slow down, give up being stressed, and be present to the moments you share. You won’t regret it.
